Engineering and Metal Fabrication was founded in 1964 and is located in the heart of the space coast, approximately 15 miles from Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral. EMF provides custom fabricated products to commercial and government sectors. The facility spans 35,000 sq ft in Merritt Island, Florida, with an additional 15,000 sq ft dedicated to precision machining. EMF has ample space for producing large structures and an open area for heavy proof loading. We employ over 110 full-time staff, including design engineers, quality assurance and inspection teams, welders, machinists, and support for configuration control, logistics, and procurement. The EMF facility holds AS9100D and ISO9001:2015 certifications. We have supported the aerospace industry for decades both locally and across the United States.
EMF is eager to engage in the design and manufacturing of quality products and unique projects. Our engineering services include structural design and analysis, enhanced by computer-aided design and manufacturing. The facility operates two production shifts daily and can work around the clock for emergency orders. With state-of-the-art equipment, EMF offers a comprehensive turnkey operation to our clients.
EMF is highly capable of handling various projects due to its experience in producing fifteen Carriage Extraction Systems over the past decade. We have extensive expertise in large and small precision weldments, machining (±.0005), sheet metal, painting, and design. Our major clients include L3 Harris, Aerojet Rocketdyne, Lockheed Martin, NASA, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Coleman Aerospace, United Launch Alliance (ULA), and United Space Alliance.
In 2023, the previous owners of EMF made the significant decision to retire, thereby passing the torch of their legacy to a new generation of enthusiastic engineers who are eager to innovate and drive the company forward. EMF, Inc started the transition into EMF Engineered Components, LLC. This transition marked a pivotal moment in the history of EMF, as the new leadership brought fresh perspectives and a wealth of modern engineering practices to the organization.
Under the guidance of this new ownership, EMF has experienced remarkable growth, both in terms of production capacity and market reach. The new management team has been proactive in identifying opportunities for expansion and has strategically positioned the company to capitalize on emerging trends within the industry. This growth is not merely quantitative; it reflects a qualitative transformation in how the company operates and engages with its workforce and clientele.
One of the key strategies implemented by the new leadership is the integration of established workforce practices with contemporary methodologies, particularly focusing on LEAN manufacturing principles. LEAN manufacturing is centered around maximizing value while minimizing waste, and its adoption has led to a more efficient production process. Employees are encouraged to identify areas where waste can be reduced, leading to not only cost savings but also improvements in product quality and delivery times.
In addition to LEAN practices, EMF has embraced the 5 S's methodology, which stands for Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain. This systematic approach to workplace organization has transformed the physical environment within the company, creating a more orderly and productive workspace. By implementing the 5 S's, the team has cultivated a culture of cleanliness and efficiency that empowers employees to take ownership of their workspaces, thereby enhancing overall morale and productivity.
Furthermore, the philosophy of Kaizen, which emphasizes continuous improvement through small, incremental changes, has become a cornerstone of EMF's operational strategy. This commitment to Kaizen encourages all employees, from the factory floor to management, to contribute ideas for improvement, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone’s input is valued. This collaborative approach not only enhances operational efficiency but also cultivates a sense of community and shared purpose among the workforce.
As a result of these initiatives, EMF is not only poised for continued success but is also setting a standard for innovation and excellence within the industry. The combination of experienced employees and new methodologies has created a dynamic and adaptable organization, ready to tackle the challenges of the future while honoring the legacy of its founders. The transition into this new era symbolizes not just a change in ownership, but a revitalization of the company’s mission and vision, ensuring that EMF remains at the forefront of engineering excellence for years to come.
